First off, I apologize for the lack of posts for the past year and then some. A multitude of factors affected my writing or the lack thereof, but perhaps the biggest was the simple fact that I did not know what direction I was heading in with this. I created this Substack with the original title of Tall Tale Truths and with it I aimed to discuss the various ways in which stories from across all mediums either explicitly or implicitly preached Christ. My chief focus, as you can see from some of my previous posts, were television shows and films with some others (I think one?) drawing on the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin. I also found ways to force in some discussion on stand up comedy and poetry.
As I wrote, I received a lot of great feedback and questions/requests concerning about other topics and while I strongly desired to cover them, I felt as if I was going out of my way to manhandle some sort of pop culture topic into the conversation to justify how they lined up with my original vision for this website. In many ways, it almost made me feel like a youth pastor who has to reference the latest Marvel movie or social media trend out of fear of losing his audience’s attention if he does otherwise. It just started to feel disingenuous, and it became clear that there was and is a desire out there for more heartfelt, honest material that is not somewhat obscured or sneakily thrown in amidst an article on the latest Halloween film. In other words: I want to be more upfront with my intentions to point people towards Christ and a fuller experience of the Christian faith.
So, with this relaunch and rebrand, I am hoping to create a space where we can all consider and discuss the need for Christ as the foundation for all things. Of course, that will still entail a lot of writing about the content we consume and the art we create, but hopefully it will also include a lot of talking about the church, healthcare, politics, and other aspects of life in general. At the forefront of all of it, however, will be the understanding that unless the Lord is the foundation upon which we build our media, our lifestyles, our world, and so on, then everything we do will be in vain.
I pray that all of the above made sense. If not, check out the About page and maybe that will clear things up some more. And if that does not help, then just tune back in for some future writings and hopefully my purposes and intents will be made more clear. The first new article of this Substack should be appearing this Wednesday and, Lord willing, there will be a new post every subsequent Wednesday as well.
Thanks for reading.
looking forward to the new articles!
